IIT Bombay celebrates 55th Founder's Day

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), on Monday celebrated its 55th Foundation Day bestowing awards on its alumni across generations.
Ten past students were presented the distinguished alumnus awards by prof. Spenta Wadia, director International Centre for Theoretical Sciences of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
Four other alumni were awarded the Young Alum Achiever Awards.
Speaking on the occasion, professor Devang Khakhar, director of IIT-B said, "We continue to attract outstanding talent in terms of both students and faculty. In the last five years, students have grown from 5,000 to 9,000 and 50 per cent of them are at the post graduate or doctoral level."
He also presented the institute's plans of setting up a Tinkerers lab, a place which will allow students to nurture and work on their ideas.
The foundation stone for the internationally recognised institute was laid by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, on March 10, 1959.
Professor Wadia also engaged the audiences with his talk titled End of space-time and beyond.
