OJEE to be replaced by JEE Main 2014 in Odisha

The state government of Odisha has decided replace the Odisha Joint Entrance Exam (OJEE) with the all-India Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main for the 2014 - 2015 academic session. The selection of students for admission to engineering courses in the institutes in Odisha will be done through JEE (Mains) 2014 only.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced that the all India level engineering entrance exam, JEE Main 2014 (Joint Entrance Examination) would be conducted on 6 April, 2014 (offline) and from 9 - 19 April, 2014 (online.) This will be the first time that Odisha will be part of the JEE (Mains) system.

Other states such as Maharashtra, Nagaland and Gujarat also plan to opt for JEE Main instead of their own state level examination.

There would be two ranks for candidates who qualify in the examination. While the State rank qualifiers would be able to study in Odisha, the all-India rank would help them pursue engineering courses in any technical college in the country.

Candidates, who want to appear for the JEE(Mains), will have to fill up the application form between November 15 and December 26.

More than one lakh students had appeared for B.Tech courses through OJEE 2013 conducted on 12 May, 2013. All the students will now have to apply through JEE Mains website, online. "Only those students applying for undergraduate B.Tech courses will go through the JEE Mains from next year. The students had enough time to prepare as the announcements were made a year ago," a senior State Government official said.

While implementing the transition from State-level entrance examination to a Central format, every State was allowed to tweak the format slightly to suit their needs. The State Government had suggested a few modifications for JEE Mains. Almost all the suggestions put forth were accepted by the CBSE, a senior Government official said.

OJEE Admit Card will be released on OJEE official website. It is one of the most important exams conducted by the government of Odisha for first-year admission to various post graduate as well as graduate courses. It must, however, be noted that for admission in B.Tech and MBBS first year, candidates must separately sit for NEET and JEE Main 2018. Admission to both these courses will be done purely on the basis of the marks that they score in their entrance exams.
