India to set up IIT like institution in Mauritius

India will help Mauritius set up an institute similar to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and recognize each other’s degrees, the human resource development ministry said on Thursday.
IIT-Delhi will help set up an International Institute of Technology Research Academy (IITRA) in Mauritius, according to an agreement between the two nations.
IITRA will start operations from 2014 and provide an educational platform for full-time and part-time post graduate research leading to masters in science and Ph.D. degrees of IIT-Delhi in specific areas.
IITRA aims to attract foreign researchers and students to Mauritius, mainly from Africa and Asia, and build core research infrastructure including faculty and facilities as per norms laid by IIT-Delhi.
Another agreement was signed between the Association of Indian Universities and Tertiary Education Council of Mauritius for mutual recognition of educational qualifications.

IIT PAPER LEAK IN 1997

A private coaching institute in Lucknow secretly called a select group of its students on the evening of May 2, barely 12 hours before the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), for `valuable suggestions'. Nearly 100 students out of the total 700 reached and were told that the tips should be learnt by rote. The next day, much to the excitement of the students, 70 per cent of the physics and chemistry questions appeared in the examination papers. The father of an examinee told IIT authorities in New Delhi over the telephone about the leak but he was rebuffed. ``Such doubts are normal and are expressed every year by parents whose wards have not done well in their examinations,'' said an IIT official. The same procedure was adopted for the mathematics paper the next day and this time too the coaching institute was bang on target. Shubham Tulsiani says This is quite a common practice among institutes so I would like to address the trends too apart from the personal experiences and I'll also write on one aspect the question didn't explicitly ask  - offers  before  JEE Pre-JEE (class 12th) I had a couple of 'offers' - Some people from Akash Institute came over to my place to 'gift' me books to help me prepare for JEE. All I had to do was - guess what - yes, sign a form ! I was amazed at how insistent they were and despite me saying I didnt need the books and wouldn't sign,  they made me keep the books. They then visited / called me about 5 more times to get my signature (until I finally returned the unused books on their last visit and told my hostel guard to not allow them back).
