Free online test for IIT-aspirants

A city collegehas created a bank of 30,000 questions and has put in place an online IIT-JEE main-type pre-assessment test module for candidates eyeing IIT admissions. The module will have real-time examinations in mathematics, physics and chemistry. The Agni College of Technology (ACT), which is ranked 20 in Tamil Nadu, has uploaded the module online at www.act.edu.in, and has said enrolment and practice are free.
It is meant to benefit those who cannot afford to join JEE training centres and students from rural areas which do not have training schools. The question bank was built on personal inquiry and contribution from IIT interns who had written the JEE main in the past, Dr S R R Senthil Kumar, principal, told IIT and KOTA.
The online test portal www.act.edu.in will add 25 new questions every week. "In each subject 25 new questions will be uploaded every week, to ensure that maximum modules are covered before the JEE main exam," Senthil Kumar said. Experts from the Agni College of Technology have optimized the technology to give a simulated real-time test experience to the students with features like results, explanation, assessment at the end of test and active time-tracking, he said.
The duration of the test will be one hour and students also have pause option. They can take a break and resume later, and yet keep the time-tracking intact, the principal said. "If they candidates have any doubts they can access the helpline during the college working hours," he added.
Though nearly six lakh students write Plus Two examinations in Tamil Naduevery year, only about 10% of IIT students from the southern states.
