Alumni, students bond at IIT-B

From mock interviews, discussions to music performances, the third edition of the Student Alumni Meet (SAM) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) on Saturday saw an amalgamation of students and alumni talk about issues relating to college and campus life.
Every year, IIT’s alumni from across the world come back to the campus for the event. Day one of the two-day meet saw a panel discussion titled, ‘Honouring the honour code’. In August 2013, students of the chemical engineering department were made to sign an honour code stating that they would not engage in academic dishonesty while at the institute. However, the code did not go down too well with many students who felt they were not consulted. The panel
discussed how the code could be improvised before its implementation.

The event also saw the launch of an orchestra band, the Y-Point orchestra, formed by 10 ex-students from batches between 1974 and 1994. They performed for the first time on Saturday and plan to fundraise for various causes through their music in the future.
