IIT-Banaras Hindu University to have new clubs under Gymkhana

The Indian Institute of Technology,Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) is upgrading and expanding its laboratories and workshops to ensure quality researches and academic work in the institute, and the activities under the IIT Gymkhana as per the standards of an IIT.

According to director, IIT-BHU, Prof Rajeev Sangal, several new clubs under IIT-Gymkhana will be introduced in the institute shortly after completing some paper works.

As many as three new technical clubs including 'Rural-Technology Outreach Club', 'Automobile Club' and 'Green Club' will be introduced under the IIT Gymkhana from this academic session. According to assistant professor, Satish Kanaujiya the Green Club has already started functioning and had also started a 'Clean Campus drive and 'Save Food' initiative to stop wastage of food in hostel mess recently and the Rural Outreach Club will conduct activities to communicate technology to rural population. Apart from this the Automobile Club will be collaborated with the society of automobile engineers and several engineering events will be organized under the club.

It may be noted here that the IIT Gymkhana organises a large number of activities under its cultural, sports and co-curricular activity wings. Several dramatics, literary, musical and fine arts events are conducted by these wings. So far it had only a Computer Club, Astronomy Club, Photography Club, Cine Club and Aero-modeling Club. According to Kanuajiya, under the expansion of Cine Club a new 'Film and Media' wing will be introduced from this year which will cover a larger domain of activities as compared to Cine Club. Several other clubs are also awaiting for the final approval and are likely to be introduced by the month end.

He further informed that from now onwards students will be able to participate in inter-IIT cultural and sports events. In the same line, for the first time, staff and students of IIT-BHU will be able to participate in the inter-IIT sports meet which is scheduled to be held at IIT-Guwahati in December.
