Auto-rickshaw driver's son from Ranchi cracks IIT-JEE

The son of an auto-rickshaw driver in Ranchi has made his family proud by cracking IIT-JEE (Advanced).

Despite his humble background, Abhishek Kumar secured 4,731st rank in the exam, ensuring himself a seat in the premier institute.

The 17-year-old, who also scored well in his Class X and XII exams, got support from a local coaching centre in chasing his dreams.

"We are happy with Abhishek's success. He took admission in the coaching through our philanthropic Fortunate-40 scheme," said R.K. Karn, FIITJEE Ranchi centre head.

Beaming with joy of success, Kumar, who wants to join electrical or civil engineering branch at IIT, said, "Being from a family with limited economic means, my journey would have been tough had the coaching centre not provided the scholarships and fee waivers."
