IIIT Kota is one of the
newly appointed
institutes for
Information
Technology. Its first
session is scheduled to
start this year after
being authorized by the
State Government in
the budget of 2010. It is
a major encouragement
for the student seeking
admissions in various
engineering colleges.
The land for campus
development was
cleared by the Ministry
of Human resource
Development at Ranpur,
Kota. With just two
months away from the
beginning of the new
session; things seem to
be in a bit of disarray.
The state technical
education department
has expressed a
possibility of starting
the maiden session of
Kota’s Indian Institute
of Information
Technology (IIIT) at
the Malviya National
Institute of Technology
(MNIT) in Jaipur.
Bright Prospects
Companies like Cairn
India Limited, Hindustan
Motors, Genpact and
Vakrangee Software
Limited have tied with
IIIT Kota, making the
institute a preferred
choice among students
after IIT’s and NIT’s.
The IIIT was awarded
to Kota after the city
failed to get IIT despite
the fact that numerous
people with political
background lobbied for
it. Even the multi-billion
coaching industry played
its part in campaigning
for the approval of IIT.
Approving the IIIT is
the union government’s
way of promoting
technical education in
the country.
Achievement so far
With the announcement
of the IIIT since 2010
very little has been
achieved. Only the
partners have been
identified, grants
allocated and land being
finalized. Various other
important processes
like forming a society,
government council,
recruitment of
academic and
administrative staff is
still pending.
Not to forget that
Curriculum design and
modules are in the
waiting list as well.
With just two months
left for the results of
JEE Mains and JEE
advanced to be
declared, this casual
attitude will cost the
institute in the very
first session. It will
reduce the chances of
attracting quality
students to its campus
and courses.
Hope for a Miracle
Indian Stretchable Time
(IST) being applied for
the developments to
the IIIT in Kota. This
simply means all that
has been done in our
country over these
years. The tradition will
remain intact of
starting or beginning
something months
after the deadline has
passed. The session will
start no matter what
happens, but getting it
done on its own
campus will be an uphill
task. India is a land of
