Disappointing: Only 400 of 24K clear IIT- JEE mains

The pune city has fared
poorly in the IIT-JEE
main examination 2013
as only 400 students
qualified for the
supreme engineering
test.
As many as 24,000
students had appeared
for the examination this
year whose results
were out on Tuesday.
The cut-off marks for
the examination was
113 out of 360 and the
advanced test will be
held on June 2, 2013.
The examination
entitles a student
admission in 16 Indian
Institutes of
Technology (IIT), 31
National Institutes of
Technology (NIT), 10
Indian Institutes of
Information Technology
(IIIT) and some other
deemed universities.
Nearly, 14 lakh students
from across the
country appeared for
the examination this
year of which 1.5 lakh
qualified.
Yash Balghat of M
Prakash classes topped
in the city with 335
marks while Prafulla
Dhariwal and R
Sundararajan scored
320 and 312
respectively.
Vaibhav Bakliwal,
founder of Bakliwal
Tutorials, said, “From
this year, the entrance
to IITs follows two
steps — mains and
advanced. The
examination was similar
to the All India
Engineering Entrance
Examination (AIEEE)
difficult-level
examination. Even the
marks scored were
similar. The Physics
paper was tough as
there were some vague
and out of syllabus
questions.”
Durgesh Mangeshkar,
MD of IITians
Parshikshan Kendra,
said, “The students
who prepared
themselves for the MH-
CET have scored poorly
in this examination. I
advise them to study in
a systematic and
concept-oriented
manner.”
An official from M
Prakash Classes said,
“The results are
disappointing.”
