“The students, earlier,
weren’t qualifying in
national-level exams
due to several reasons
– the English medium,
incongruent syllabus
and that students
weren’t exposed to the
model and methodology
of the examination,”
said an official with

success to sustained
changes in education
system and
examination methods.
“When a problem is

needn’t have to prepare

are based on the central
board’s syllabus.”
Patel added, “Gujarat’s
syllabus is almost at
par with CBSE’s, which
is benefiting students in
their preparation for the
joint entrance exams.”
One of the primary
changes was
introduction of Multiple

(MCQs) in GSHSEB’s HSC
examination.
“This exposed students
to the model and
methodology of JEE
exams,” said Patel.
And the results are for
everybody to see.
Of the 1.50 lakh
students In India who
have qualified for JEE-
Advanced, 10,787 are
from Gujarat – almost
7% of the successful
candidates. “It may
seem a small
percentage but
compared to our
previous performance in
IIT-JEE, students this
time have done
remarkably better. It
will only increase in time
to come,” said Patel.
