IIIT students organise first sports meet ever

Students must spare one-hour time for their body and brain daily for fitness and a innovative mind, said professor GC Nandi, director in-charge at the inaugural ceremony of Asmita- the three-day annual sport meet of Indian Institute Information Technology, Allahabad on Tuesday.

Professor Nandi lighted the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the first ever sports meet organised by Students' Gymkhana, at Sports Ground on Tuesday morning. He congratulated the students for organising the first ever sports event at IIIT Allahabad.

Hundreds of student participated in the march past which was followed by 200 metre boys/girls heats, Shotput (girls/boys/ faculty-staff), Biscuit Race and Spoon Marble Race (50 mtrs), 1,600 m (girls/boys/faculty-staff), 200 m finals(Girls/boys), 400 m(heats) (girls/boys/faculty-staff), 4x100 m Relay(Heats) (girls/boys/faculty-staff) and 4x400 Relay(Heats) (girls/boys/faculty-staff) events. Dr Manish Singh, sports coordinator conducted the event along with the Gymkhana office bearers.

Awaeness prog: A lecture, aimed at spreading awareness and prevention regarding Cancer, was organised at Arya kanya Girls Degree College, a constituent college of Allahabad University, on Tuesday. The lecture, held for women and girl students of the college was organised by the women study centre of AU.

Lecture on Feb 20: The annual event, Professor Kshetrasa Chandra Chattopadhyaya Memorial Lecture, will be held on February 20 at Braj Mohan Vyas Auditorium of Allahabad Museum. This year the lecture will be delivered by Padma Shri professor GN Samten, vice-chancellor of the Central Tibetan Studies University at Sarnath.

Function: Anjuman Roohe Adab, Allahabad will be organising a function on February 19, at Sapru Hall, Gulati Marg, Mayo Hall, informed Col (Retd) Syed Abrar Ahmad.
