The Blockbuster Story of Kota

Image
Rajasthan’s Kota continues its winning streak in training students for success in pre-engineering and pre-medical college entrance tests Getting into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is harder than admission to America’s Ivy League: each year more than a million students take the entrance examination for a meagre 8,622 seats in the 16 IITs. It is equally difficult to get into country’s premier medical school: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has only 72 undergraduate seats and more than 500,000 students vie for it. Of course, there are more engineering and medical seats in the country, but IITs and AIIMS Delhi remain the most sought after. Almost one in every three youths who make it to these premier technical and medical schools are students from cram schools in Kota, a riverbank town 256 kilometres south of Jaipur in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. Kota’s success in these entrance exams has been stuff of legend as the coaching bu...

Which is the Best Coaching Institute of India for IIT JEE Preparation ??

Image
There is no definite answer to this. Because the question is very subjective: What is meant by  best ? The institute that has the best faculty? The best study material? The institute producing best ranks in JEE? The institute producing great minds that go on to do good stuff in college? Or something else? And more importantly, it doesn't matter. I would say that most of the institutes are good! Some similarities and differences between coaching institutes: 1)  Almost all institutes have 2 sets of faculty : The great ones, and the not-so-great ones. The great ones are assigned to batches with better students, in general. So if you are among the top students in your institute, then it doesn't matter which institute you are in. You will almost surely get good faculty. 2)  Almost all institutes have students of mixed level : Some are bright, while some are not-so-bright. Some sincere, some not-so-sincere. You need to be able to differentiate the two kinds, and try to lea...

The Main Reasons for Downfall of Bansal Classes

Image
The reason for fall of Bansal Classes, Kota are as follows: 1. Unprofessional work environment: Bansal classes is a private limited organization being run as some family business. All of their family members are teaching whether or not they are competent enough to do so. The management also is run mostly by Bansal family members who are really inefficient and can't actually contribute to competitive growth of the organization. 2. Pathetic and disrespectful behavior towards the faculty members: On several occasions, Bansal sir and his family members have misbehaved with really good and widely respected faculty members in front of the students in a running class. Here are some of the reasons they did it: Whenever a teacher becomes famous among students because of his/her amazing teaching skills and people from other batches come to attend their class (I really don't understand how this is the teacher's fault). Whenever a faculty member tried to negotiate his/her compensat...

IIT craze touched peak Nagpur got its first JEE Mains India topper

Image
The year 2013 has significantly savored the joy of engineering entrance exams  in Nagpur, if the results of JEE Mains and Advance – the newly introduced gateways to engineering institutes and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – is anything to go by. Nagpur students ran past their previous performances to set new records in both engineering and medical entrance examinations. As the aspiring students performed exceptionally well in JEE Mains, the next level JEE Advanced – gateway to crack IIT also saw record number of students hitting the target. This year, the city came up with its first ever All India Topper in JEE Mains Chandra Malu who is also Maharashtra topper in JEE Advanced. The aspirants also showed their sheer dedication towards the entrance examinations. However this extra ordinary inclination towards IIT frenzy took a toll on school going habit of the students who skipped classes to be with coaching institutes. Some coaching institutes somehow managed to get the ...

50% of IIT entrants not from coaching classes

After the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) results, coaching classes get busy spinning success stories. Each student who makes it to the hallowed Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) may just be reduced to a rank, but it is their golden ticket to netting more candidates for admission. But information collected by the tech colleges reveals that close to half of those who make their mark in the entrance test prepare for the exam on their own. The IITs ask every student who takes the JEE whether he/she prepared for the test "on his own or via other methods", which, in short, covers all sorts of coaching provided. This includes classroom series, distance learning, referring to tutorial notes or appearing for mock tests. Candidates are also informed that their selection would be based on the marks they have scored, irrespective of their preparation method. Data provided by candidates shows that about 50% students said they studied on their own. Their share has altered over the yea...
