Kota retains its charm as "MECCA" for IIT JEE aspirants



Kota known for coaching hubs has lived up to its name as three students including national topper Chitraang Murdia making it to the first 10 the just announced IIT-JEE results. 

Apart from Murdia (Udaipur), Govind Lahoti and Amey Gupta bagged second and eight positions. Kota city has produced a national topper after a gap of five years. 

The multi-million dollar coaching industry in Kota is a performance based sector and flow of students depends upon the overall success stories from here. So far, reports from different coaching centres in Kota said the city has a lion share in the number of successful students with over 7000 selections and counting against the total of 27,151 selections for 9500 seats in IITs. 

Murdia bagged the first position with a score of 334 out of 360. "My intensive and exhaustive traveling between Udaipur and Kota certainly paid-off," he said. Govind Lahoti from Indore missed the second slot by one mark in the math section. His score of 322 was equal to the all India second rank holder. 

Kota based Allen Coaching Institute has 8 selections in the top 100 including national topper Murdia, Lahoti (3rd), Gupta (8th) and Kushal Bhabel from Udaipur who bagged 27th position nationally. 

Brijesh Maheshwari, director of Allen Coaching Institute, said that change in the pattern for JEE with 40% weightage taken from Class XII marks has not affected the overall results. "It's a best score for Kota's coaching industry. Our faculty members, many of whom are IITians, have proven that we can deliver excellence in coaching for IITs," he said.
