What IIT aspirants said about JEE MAINS 2014 ??

Several hundred IIT aspirants from Chennai who travelled to Puducherry, Madurai and Coimbatore on Sunday to write the pen and paper version of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, 2014, said they may have tripped up on a couple of sections of the test.

The chemistry paper was fairly easy, they said, but physics and mathematics sections were particularly difficult.

The computer-based version of the test will be held in various centres including Chennai on April 9, 11, 12 and 19, but several students from the city chose to take the pen and paper test, with some preferring the traditional format and others wanting to get the exam out of the way as early as possible.

Sandeep Nayak, of Chellammal Vidhyalaya in Nanganallur, said many of the physics questions were unexpected and he took more time to complete the math section than expected.

After completing the three-hour paper, which began at 9.30am, some students said they wanted to finish the exam early so they would have time to prepare for JEE Advanced.

"I decided to write the exam in Puducherry so I would have more time to prepare for the advanced test," Hrithik Sethia, a student of Sindhi Model School, Kilpauk, said.

The JEE, conducted by CBSE, is the gateway to undergraduate engineering programmes in the IITs, NITs, IIITs and other centrally-funded technical institutions in India. Students seeking admission in the NITs only need to take the JEE Main and not the JEE Advanced, scheduled on May 25 this year. The top 1.5 lakh students in the JEE Main qualify for the Advanced test.

Bharath Raju, from Velammal Matriculation School in Mogappair West, stayed in Puducherry overnight. "It's tiring to travel for three hours," he said. He chose the pen and paper version, he said, because he did not want to be affected by a possible technical snag.

The JEE Paper 2 for BArch and BPlanning was also conducted on Sunday.
