Modi assures IIT status for ISM Dhanbad

BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi today said Indian School of Mines (ISM) which has its identity on the international level has not been accorded IIT status by the Congress led UPA government.

"ISM attracts students from across the world hence it should be given the status of IIT," Mr Modi said while addressing an election rally at Nehru Ground in Karkend while campaigning for party candidate P N Singh from Dhanbad which will witness polls on April 24.

Criticising the Congress government for neglecting Dhanbad while launching the welfare schemes, Mr Modi said the whole country is 'lightened' because of the coal provided by this district but the Centre has always betrayed the 'Coal City'.

'Even the underground fire of this district has not been contained for the last five decades,' Mr Modi said adding that science has reached new heights but still nothing was done to douse the underground flames of this district.

'The rulers of Delhi could not stop this fire from spreading in the last 50 years,' he said adding that there was a need to re-establish the identity of this area.

He said the Centre's claim of providing jobs to 10 crore youths do not stand anywhere as only Gujarat has provided jobs to 57 per cent unemployed as mentioned in a report of Central Government's Employment Exchange.

'Even youth from Jharkhand migrate to Gujarat in search of jobs,' he added.

'This is my third tour to this state and I feel that inclination towards BJP has increased post by two tours,' he said the people have now made up their minds to root out the UPA government.

Coming down heavily on Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh he said that can a leader who had said on twitter that India was a dirty country on a social networking site do anything for the betterment of the people.

Among those present also included sitting Giridih MP Ravindra Pandey, former MP Rita Verma and party MLA Kunti Singh.
