IIT-Kanpur awards 11 faculty members

The Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur celebrated Teachers' Day on Thursday by felicitating 11 faculty members of the institute who have completed 25 years of their service in the institute. Also, three professors were given the prestigious 'Distinguished Teacher Award-2013'.
Director, IIT-Kanpur, Prof Indranil Manna gave the distinguished teacher award to Prof Gurumurthy Neelakanatan of department of humanities, Prof Raghubir Sharan and Prof Aloke Dutta of department of electrical engineering.

Amongst those who were awarded for completion of 25 years of service included Prof NS Vyas of Mechanical Engineering Department, Prof Ethirajan Rathakrishnan, Prof Vadapalli Chandrasekhar, Prof Rabindra Nath Mukherjee, Prof Parimal Kanti Bharadwaj, Prof Sadasivam Manogaran, Prof Sarvesh Chandra, Prof Sekhar Kumar Chakrabati, Prof Pradip Sircar, Prof Pravir Dutt and Prof krishnamurthy Muralidhar.
Prof NS Vyas who received the award in person had several achievements to his credit including the successful development and the launch of nano-satellite Jugnu from Srihari Kota. The satellite was developed by a team of students under his guidance.
Prof Raghubir Sharan was the head of the department of electrical engineering in 1980.
He had joined IIT-Kanpur in 1969 as a faculty member and served with distinction till 2004. Meanwhile, Prof Aloke Dutta has been a professor in IIT-K since 2003. Prof Dutta has authored a popular textbook on electronic devices which is being used all over the country.
Similarly, Gurumurthy Neelakanatan who also got the teachers award earned PhD in English from IIT-Kanpur in 1989 and returned to IIT-K as an assistant professor in 1996. The teachers felicitated with a citation, plaque and a shawl each.
