Google gives Three IITians a package of 92 lakhs

Placement fever is yet to hit IIT-Madras but three students of the institute have already received fat offers from Internet giant Google.
At an annual pay of $145,000 (approx. Rs. 92 lakh), it is perhaps the highest salary package in the recent history of the institution.
Computer science students Guru Prakash, Santhosh Kumar N. and Kavin Karthik received the placement offers on Friday.
On Monday, Prakash said he was overwhelmed by the opportunity and excited to work with Google.
“I was one among the few matriculation-school students at IIT-M and always thought life there would be difficult. But it was not so,” he said.
The three students were selected by Google to intern with the company for three months in Bangalore. After completion of their projects, they were interviewed.
“I could not finish solving many of the questions but they observe your approach, not the solution,” said Prakash, who hails from Coimbatore.
Kumar, an alumnus of Sri Sankara School in Adyar, said his internship at Google helped him realise his interest in programming.
“I always thought electrical engineering was my interest area and almost shifted to the branch,” said the student who spent a year at NIT before making it to IIT-M.
“At Google in Bangalore, I would finish a 10-week project in six weeks, and then pick projects of my choice to while away the extra time,” he said.
Karthik, a former student of DAV Gopalapuram, said the best thing about the offer was Google’s work culture. “They have something called ‘Thank God it’s Friday,’ when no one works after lunch on Fridays. There are games, regular outings and excursions. When a company does so much for you, employees put in their best,” he said.
